French born tennis champion, Suzanne Lenglen, won 31 championship titles between 1914 - 1926.  She started playing at age 10 because her father encouraged the sport to strengthen her lungs (she suffered from asthma).  She loved the sport and entered championship games at the age of 14.  She won the Gold medal in the 1920 Olympics.   She went blind and had leukemia in 1938.  She died from pernicious anemia at age of 39.
